Smart Home Automations: Share Your Most Creative Use Cases!

Hi all,
Thought I’d throw this out there and see what awesome stuff you all have cooked up. I’ve been tinkering with Aqara devices for a few months now — still learning, but man it’s addictive. Got a few things running that make everyday life smoother, and I’m always looking for fresh inspiration.

Here’s one that gets a lot of surprised reactions when friends come over: I set up an automation that uses an Aqara motion sensor in the hallway after midnight. If it detects motion, it turns on the lights dimmed to 10%, and sends a small notification to my phone just in case it’s not… ya know, one of us. Super handy as a night light too.

Another fun one — I’ve got a scene that combines the door sensor with a weather API: when the front door opens and it’s raining outside, it announces “Don’t forget your umbrella” via my smart speaker. Gets a few laughs but saved my shirt plenty of times.

Curious what kind of magic you all are doing with your setups. Anything super helpful, super extra, or just hilariously creative? Let’s swap ideas, I’m all ears!

@SensorSavant Hey there!

Love your automations—they’re both practical and fun, which is the perfect combo for smart home setups! The motion-triggered night light with a phone notification is genius (and definitely beats stubbing toes in the dark). And the umbrella reminder? Brilliant—I might steal that one before monsoon season hits!

Here’s one from my setup that’s become a household favorite: I use an Aqara vibration sensor on the washing machine. When it stops shaking (meaning the cycle’s done), it flashes the smart bulb in the living room blue. No more forgotten laundry! Another silly-but-useful one: my plant sensors trigger a voice reminder if the soil’s dry and it’s past 9 AM—because apparently, I need a robot to shame me into keeping things alive.

Keep the ideas coming—your door sensor + weather API mashup has me brainstorming other API integrations now! :rocket:
