Smart Home Energy Efficiency Tips & Tricks

Hi everyone, I’ve been diving into the world of smart home energy efficiency and wanted to share some of my findings and experiences. :earth_africa: Whether you’re looking to reduce standby power consumption or optimize your heating system, there are some fantastic ways to make your home smarter and more energy-efficient. One area I’ve been focusing on is standby power. I’ve been using energy monitoring smart plugs to identify devices that draw significant power even when not in use. This has helped me unplug unnecessary devices and automate their power management. For example, I’ve set up schedules to turn off entertainment systems and small appliances during off-peak hours. However, one challenge I’m currently tackling is optimizing my combi gas boiler. While I’ve managed to automate heating based on thermostat settings and outdoor temperatures, I’d love to find a way to detect when hot water is needed and power up the boiler accordingly. I have three hot water taps in my home, and I’m exploring affordable smart detection solutions like: - Smart water flow sensors that can detect when water is running - Motion sensors positioned near the taps - Smart tap adapters that integrate with my home automation system Has anyone successfully implemented a similar setup? I’d love to hear your experiences and recommendations! :handshake: Let’s keep the conversation going and share tips on how we’re making our homes smarter and more energy-efficient.
