Hello everyone, I hope you’re all doing well! I wanted to share some of my recent experiences and gather your thoughts on a few topics I’ve been exploring in the smart home space. First off, I recently upgraded my Koubachi plant sensors to the second generation. The new models support soil temperature readings, which is fantastic! However, I’ve noticed that the OpenHAB binding doesn’t seem to support these new readings. Has anyone else encountered this issue or found a workaround? I’d love to hear your insights! Speaking of sensors, I’ve been experimenting with motion sensors for my hallway and bathroom. I came across the Enerwave ceiling sensor, but the reviews have been mixed. I’m curious if anyone has had success with this sensor or if there’s a better alternative for small spaces. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! On a more positive note, I wanted to share something I’ve been working on. I recently created a 3D model of Marvin, the depressed robot from The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, to house my Homey device. It was a fun project, and I’d love to hear if anyone else has tried something similar or has any tips for improving the design. You can check out the model on Thingiverse if you’re interested! Another topic I’ve been exploring is the integration of third-party devices with Alexa and Google Home. Specifically, I’m looking to control my Lennox iComfort S30 thermostat without relying on voice commands. I’ve had some success with IFTTT, but I’m hoping there’s a more seamless way to integrate this into my OpenHAB setup. If anyone has experience with this, I’d be thrilled to hear about your setup. Lastly, I wanted to touch on the importance of low battery warnings in smart home devices. I use Nuki for my locks, and while the app notifications are helpful, I’d love to see a persistent iOS message that increases in frequency as the battery drains. This would ensure I never miss a critical warning, especially since I rely heavily on my smart locks. I’d love to hear your thoughts on these topics or any other experiences you’ve had with smart home devices. Let’s keep the conversation going and learn from each other’s experiences! Happy automating everyone! ![]()
