The Halloween season is here, and what better way to celebrate than with some spooky smart home decorations? I’ve been experimenting with my smart lights and cameras to create some haunted effects, and I wanted to share my experiences and tips with the community.
First, I’ve been using my Neon Rope Lights to create some eerie ambiance around the house. The flexibility of these lights makes it easy to wrap them around doorframes, staircases, or even trees in the yard. I’ve paired them with a Smart Plug to schedule them to turn on at sunset, giving the house a spooky glow without any manual intervention.
One challenge I encountered was with my Arlo cameras. After live-streaming a camera, the display shows a snapshot of the current view, but the time stamp doesn’t update correctly if I leave the app running in the background. I noticed that forcing a complete exit from the app and reopening it after some time results in the correct time stamp. It’s a minor inconvenience, but it’s good to know how to work around it for those Halloween night vigils!
I’d love to hear how others are using their smart home devices for Halloween decorations. Have you tried any creative setups or automations? Let’s share our haunted home ideas and inspire each other to make this Halloween the smartest one yet! ![]()
