I have been tinkering with Home automation for a few years now, starting off with a Google Hub, moving to HomeKit but keeping Hub’s and took the plunge to Home Assistant and now have 254 entities in total. Trying to convert everything I have to Aqara except Hue light as they just work tbh.
Also learned limitations of Router shortfalls and a phenomonon called memory exhaustion especially with a lot of smart home kit and Sonos speakers. Has anyone else had that issue , also any tips on getting the G410 Doorbell to notify earlier, I have hard wired it and I can still get in the house, put kettle on before it says some is lingering at the door.
Hi. Could you please provide us with a few more details about your setup in relation to the G410 doorbell camera hub?
Which system (Aqara, Google, Apple or Home Assistant) sends the notification? How did you connect the G410 to the system (Zigbee or Thread)? Are the devices separated by VLANs? Are there Wi-Fi repeaters or routers or other devices?
Only the power supply is hardwired. How far is the distance from the door to the chime/hub and to the Wi-Fi router?
Hi, first a quick heads up I’m an IT guy by profession so I’m reasonably clued up, the g410 is WiFi not zigbee unless using Hub part, all connected to one router a GLi flint wifi7 but set up on 2.4ghz channel as it’s in same room, on Apple HomeKit but obviously set up on Aqara app as well, I tend to get main notification via Aqara app. Linger is set up to 4 mtr as I have a path to main door, hope that helps.
Fellow IT specialist here. Nice to meet you! Sorry about the mix-up regarding Zigbee and Thread earlier; I was probably a little distracted. You are absolutely right, it is Wi-Fi based.
Have you checked the signal strength directly in the Aqara App under Device Settings → Network Information?
Regarding the delay: You mentioned using the Aqara App for notifications. Have you compared the speed with HomeKit notifications? Since HomeKit processes locally (via your Home Hub), it is usually significantly faster than the Aqara Cloud roundtrip.
Also, touching on your Sonos/Router memory topic: A Multicast/Broadcast storm from Sonos can congest the network airtime and delay the camera’s initial connection/upload. Have you looked into IGMP Snooping on your setup?
And just to be sure:
- Which specific notification is arriving late? Is it Face Detection, Doorbell Ringing, or Loitering Detection?
- Do you have the G410 or the G410 Pro?
Hi John, didnt know there was a pro, been a gadget hoarder for years now, as well as owning my own IT company, thankfully passed it on and just work for them now, much lest stress tbh, I am a DJ, Producer, remixer and Radio host and all the tech involved with that, house is full of tech lol, recently upgraded to 2GBS Fibre and they sent me an awful sagecom pro router that rebooted 8 times a night as it couldn’t handle the Sonos traffic and HA, GH and HK stuff, I assume you ok with abbreviations lol.So I upgraded to GLi Flint Router with 2gb Ram and everything is now perfect, all wired stuff upgraded to 2.5GBS and Wifi 7, 5ghz and 2.4, So I have primarily HK stuff as I’m on the Apple spectrum, phone, iPad, Macs etc, so HK primarily , still waiting for their Home Display roofer thats rumored until then I use my Google Max hub, 2 of them for cameras, media hubs etc. I tend to set up up everything from Home Assistant and bridge it out to HK and it works flawlessly even the Aqara sensors I have, I have 2 FP300s and a FP2, all my lights switch on and off me telly pauses when I get up of the sofa lol. I have doorbell fetish and I have wait for it, the original G4, now in a box and for sale, new G410 better camera orientation a Eufy Dual, would not play nice with HA, HK or GH but awesome in its own app, now downgraded to Guinea Pig Cam, lol, and the original Google Nest Door Bell, phew.
Rating for notification speed, Google was the fastest, I have a 4mtr walk from garden gate to door,
Eufy fast on app useless on anything else and finally when I get to the point G410 which ticks all the boxes with HK and Apple TV etc considering it has MM wave sensor will let me walk through gate, faff about with keys get in, walk to kettle before notification, fine for me but if it was burglar etc not so fine, signal is perfect as its a few feet from router.
That’s interesting, my setup is actually quite similar to yours. I’m also running Home Assistant as the base, combined with Apple and Aqara.
I handle the TV lighting automation in a similar way too: when the Apple TV pauses, the lights brighten up a bit, and when I turn it off completely, they go even brighter.
Regarding the difference between the G410 and the Pro version: As far as I know, facial recognition on the Pro happens locally on-device. On the standard version, I believe this is processed via the cloud, which might explain the latency you’re seeing.
Also, regarding the “loitering” detection, there will probably always be an inherent delay since the system has to wait to confirm the person is actually staying put. Is the notification just as slow when someone actually presses the doorbell button?
No press the bell it’s immediate no issues with that, I came home this evening you can see by my pic the distance between gate and door, the bell lights up indicating it sees me but no notification to say person seen etc, the eufy would perk up and notification would be immediate, same with Google nest cam, I came to door, fumbled keys, kettle on, upstairs to sort guinea pigs to eventually get a notification on me Apple Watch linger detected. Maybe a delay on me watch I’ll check that out. Me OCD is kicking in lol
