As the holiday season approaches, I wanted to share my recent experience integrating my smart home devices for a festive touch. My goal was to automate my Christmas lights and create a seamless experience using multiple brands like Philips, Wyze, and Shelly. Here’s how it went!
The Setup
I started by connecting my Philips Airfryer to the Homey Pro 2023 hub, which was a breeze thanks to the built-in support. I then moved on to setting up my Wyze Cam v3 and Shelly devices. The Shelly 1PM and Shelly Dimmer 2 were a bit tricky at first, but after some research, I figured out how to wire them to control my outdoor lights and create a dimming scene for the evenings.
Challenges and Solutions
One issue I encountered was with the Zigbee devices, like my Ikea plugs and Sonoff sensors. After a firmware update, half of my devices went offline. I tried rebooting the hub and searching for nearby devices, but nothing worked. Thankfully, I found a solution by resetting the hub and re-pairing the devices one by one. It was a bit time-consuming, but now everything is back to working perfectly!
The Outcome
The result? A stunning Christmas light display that automatically turns on at sunset and adjusts based on motion detected by my Wyze Cam. I even set up a routine where the lights change colors when I press the ‘OFF’ button on my Harmony remote, triggering a ‘goodnight’ routine. It’s been a fantastic way to enjoy the holidays with technology!
