I recently embarked on a fun DIY project to enhance my smart home setup, and I wanted to share my experience with the community. My goal was to integrate a few new devices and create a more seamless automation system. Here’s how it went:
The Challenge:
I wanted to add a Somfy 2-Button remote to my Hubitat setup to control my blinds. After some research, I found that the official instructions didn’t quite work for me. I decided to figure it out on my own!
The Solution:
After some trial and error, I discovered a reliable method to pair the remote:
- Press the back reset button for 20 seconds until you see a solid red light.
- Exclude the device by holding the reset button for 3 seconds, then double-tap quickly.
- Include the device by holding the reset button for 3 seconds and releasing without tapping. The light will flash green when successful.
This worked like a charm, and now I have a handy remote for my blinds!
Unexpected Joy:
While working on this project, I also stumbled upon a great way to control my bathroom audio system. I used an Onkyo AV preamp with Zone2 output to route music to my bathroom speakers. The best part? I added a rotary encoder with ESP8266 and MQTT for easy control, even with wet hands!
Lessons Learned:
- Don’t hesitate to experiment and tweak instructions to fit your setup.
- Sometimes, the simplest solutions can make the biggest difference.
- The community here is invaluable—sharing tips and tricks truly makes the smart home journey more enjoyable!
