Hey everyone! I wanted to share my recent smart home project success. I’ve been wanting to integrate my Wyze cameras with my Google Nest Hub for a while now, and I’m thrilled to say it finally worked out!
Project Background
I’ve been using Wyze cameras for their affordability and reliability, but integrating them with my Nest Hub was proving to be a bit of a challenge. I wanted the ability to view live feeds and receive notifications directly through my Nest Hub, but it wasn’t as straightforward as I hoped.
Challenges Faced
Initially, I tried using the default Wyze app integration with the Nest Hub, but it kept disconnecting. I’d get a live feed for a few minutes, and then it would just stop. I even reached out to Wyze support, but their solutions didn’t fully resolve the issue.
Solution
After some research, I stumbled upon a community-suggested workaround using MQTT and Home Assistant. It took a bit of tweaking, but here’s what worked for me:
- MQTT Setup: I configured my Wyze cameras to publish updates to an MQTT broker.
- Home Assistant Integration: I set up Home Assistant to act as the intermediary, translating MQTT messages into a format the Nest Hub could understand.
- Custom Automation: I created a simple automation in Home Assistant that triggers a notification on my Nest Hub whenever a Wyze camera detects motion.
Results
Now, my Nest Hub seamlessly displays live feeds from my Wyze cameras and sends timely notifications. It’s like having a fully integrated security system without the hefty price tag!

- Start Small: If you’re new to MQTT or Home Assistant, start with a single camera and work your way up.
- Community Resources: Don’t hesitate to reach out to forums and community groups. There’s a wealth of knowledge out there!
