Smart Home Security Setup and Tips

Hey everyone, I’ve been diving into the world of smart home security lately, and I wanted to share my experiences and some tips that might help others setting up their systems. :male_detective::male_sign:

First off, I’ve installed a Wyze Cam v2 at my front door to keep an eye on things. The setup was pretty straightforward, but I noticed something interesting—despite having the exact same settings as my old camera, the viewing angle seemed narrower. It’s a bit concerning because I rely on these cameras to cover as much area as possible. Has anyone else experienced this?

Another thing I’ve been experimenting with is motion sensors. I have a couple of Sonoff open/close sensors and some IKEA plugs. They’ve been great for detecting movement, but I’ve noticed that sometimes they miss activity, especially with my two energetic dogs. It’s a bit frustrating, but I’ve found that placing them strategically helps improve detection. :paw_prints:

I also wanted to mention the importance of integrating different devices. For instance, I use a combination of smart locks and cameras to create a layered security system. The Wyze Lock has been a lifesaver, and pairing it with the gateway ensures I always have remote access. However, I’ve had some guests who accidentally unplug the gateway, so I’m on the hunt for a secure bracket to keep it in place. If anyone has recommendations, I’d love to hear them! :unlock:

Lastly, I’ve been exploring the use of routines to automate certain security tasks. For example, I have a routine that turns on lights and sends me a notification if motion is detected after dark. It’s been pretty effective, but I’d love to hear how others are using routines for security. :dart:

Overall, setting up a smart home security system has been a fantastic way to peace of mind, but it definitely requires some trial and error. I’d love to hear your experiences and tips in the comments below! :rocket:
