Smart Home Setup and Alexa Kids Mode Issues

Hello everyone, I’m new to the world of smart home technology and I’m really excited to share my journey with you. I recently purchased an Amazon Echo Dot for my kids, which comes with a one-year subscription to the Alexa Kids+ service. However, I’m facing some issues with the setup that I hope you can help me with.

Alexa Kids+ Subscription Issues
I set up the Alexa Kids+ profile for my children, but when I try to ask Alexa to play a book from the library, it responds with, ‘I can’t find titles in the subscribed catalogue.’ I follow the instructions correctly by saying, ‘Alexa, read [title],’ but it still doesn’t work. This is quite frustrating because the subscription seems useless if I can’t access the content. Has anyone else experienced this issue? How did you resolve it? I really want my kids to enjoy the educational and entertaining content that comes with this subscription.

Shelly Dimmer 2 SSID Disappearance
Another issue I’m facing is with my Shelly Dimmer 2 devices. After installing them, they initially showed their SSIDs, allowing me to configure them easily. However, now only one of them displays its SSID, making it hard to set up the others. I’ve tried resetting them and checking my network settings, but nothing seems to work. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the SSIDs back without physically accessing the devices? I’m hoping there’s a workaround to avoid opening up the walls again.

Govee Smart Heaters No Longer Available
I also wanted to mention that I was disappointed to hear that Govee has stopped selling their smart heaters in North America. I was really looking forward to using them for my home heating needs. Their customer service mentioned regulatory restrictions, but it’s still a letdown. I’m curious if anyone has found alternative smart heating solutions that are just as reliable and user-friendly.

Christmas Lighting Setup
On a more positive note, I thought I’d share my recent Christmas lighting setup. I’ve been experimenting with RGB themes and smart bulbs to create a festive atmosphere. It’s amazing how technology can transform a simple decoration into something truly magical. I’m using a combination of timers and voice commands to control the lights, which has made my holidays much more convenient and enjoyable.

Conclusion
Smart home technology is incredibly powerful, but it can also be quite challenging when things don’t work as expected. I’m grateful for communities like this where I can share my experiences and learn from others. If anyone has advice on the issues I’m facing, or if you’d like to share your own smart home projects, I’d love to hear from you. Happy holidays and happy automating!
