Smart Home Setup and Learning Journey

Starting my smart home journey has been both exciting and challenging! I recently set up a few devices, including the Govee LED strip lights, which my family absolutely loves. They were so thrilled to see them light up, especially my 6-year-old daughter who now plays violin with the music mode on. It’s wonderful to see the joy they bring to our home.

However, I’ve encountered a few hurdles along the way. For instance, getting the device tracker to work consistently across all devices has been tricky. I have four Android devices with the HA App installed, but only one works reliably. I’m curious if others have faced similar issues and how they resolved them.

Another area I’m exploring is setting up a reliable security system. I’ve heard great things about Life360, but since my wife doesn’t have a smartphone, I’m looking into using a ST Sensor to track her presence. It would be fantastic if the system could automatically arm itself when both of us are away.

I also recently tried installing AdGuard Home on my Home Assistant Green device. While the UI makes it seem straightforward, I ran into issues with DNS configurations. I ended up having to install it on a separate device, which worked better. If anyone has tips on integrating AdGuard smoothly with Home Assistant, I’d love to hear them!

Overall, this journey has been a great learning experience. I’m grateful for the community support and the wealth of resources available. If anyone has questions or tips, feel free to share—I’m always eager to learn more!
