Hello everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience setting up my smart home. It was a mix of excitement and challenges, but I learned a lot along the way! ![]()
I started with a Raspberry Pi 3 running openHAB, which I set up in my workshop with Wi-Fi for easy tinkering. However, when I moved it to its final location and connected it to Ethernet, I noticed something odd: the system kept using Wi-Fi instead of the more stable Ethernet connection. After some research, I found that the configuration needed a tweak to prioritize Ethernet. It was a bit frustrating at first, but solving it gave me a sense of accomplishment! ![]()
Another thing I explored was the Sengled Snap light strips I picked up at Sam’s Club. They were a bit pricey, but I was curious if they’d work well with my setup. After some testing, I can confidently say they’re worth the investment! They integrate seamlessly with SmartThings and add a nice touch of ambiance to my home. ![]()
I also tried my hand at some Halloween-themed DIY projects for my TV backlights. It was a fun way to get into the holiday spirit while showcasing my creativity. The best part? Seeing the reactions from my friends and family when they walked in! ![]()
If you’re just starting out with smart home tech, my advice is to take it one step at a time. Don’t hesitate to reach out to the community for help—everyone here is super supportive! ![]()
