Hi everyone, I recently moved into a new home in the UK and decided to dive into the world of smart home technology. It’s been quite an adventure so far, and I wanted to share my experiences and some tips for anyone else looking to set up their smart home. ![]()

First off, I wanted to integrate Google Home and SmartThings into my setup. The idea was to create a seamless ecosystem where I can control everything from my phone or through voice commands. I started with home security, installing a siren, cameras, window sensors, and motion sensors. It was a bit overwhelming at first, but breaking it down into smaller tasks made it manageable.
Next, I moved on to smart lighting. I’m a big fan of Xiaomi products, so I went with their smart bulbs and switches. They’ve been performing exceptionally well and are super easy to set up. Plus, the integration with Google Home and SmartThings has been flawless so far.
Heating control was another priority. I opted for a SmartThings thermostat which has been great. It’s compatible with my existing heating system and allows me to adjust temperatures remotely. The best part? I can create schedules and even monitor energy usage to keep costs down.
Cost was a big consideration for me. I aimed for a simple and affordable setup, and so far, I’ve managed to keep expenses under control. Using a mix of budget-friendly devices and ensuring everything integrates well has been key.
One thing I’d love to hear more about is motion sensor override rules for parties. I’ve seen some solutions online but would love to hear how others handle this. If you have any tips or tricks, please share! ![]()
Overall, the journey has been incredibly rewarding. The convenience and peace of mind that come with a smart home are truly unbeatable. I can’t wait to explore more features and maybe even add some more devices in the future. Happy smart home building, everyone! ![]()
