Hello everyone!
I’m embarking on an exciting journey to transform my home into a smart haven, and I’d love to hear your tips and experiences along the way. I’ve been researching various systems and devices, and I’m currently leaning towards integrating Apple HomeKit as the top layer for seamless automation. However, I’m also exploring other platforms like Homey and Homee to see what they can offer in terms of flexibility and device compatibility.
My home is a three-story building with a basement, ground floor, and first floor, each around 120m². I’ve already invested in Philips Hue lighting across all floors, which I absolutely love for their versatility and integration capabilities. I’m also using Netatmo cameras for security, and they’ve been performing exceptionally well. However, I’m looking to expand my setup with more smart devices, such as roller shutters, heating automation, and even a smart garage door.
One challenge I’m facing is integrating devices from different brands. For instance, I’m curious about how well Homey can handle Z-Wave devices alongside my existing Philips Hue setup. I’ve also come across some interesting devices like the Somfy markise and Landroid robotic mower, but I’m not entirely sure how they’ll fit into my ecosystem. I’d love to hear from anyone who has experience with these devices or similar setups!
Another area I’m exploring is home security. I’m considering adding more sensors and possibly a smart lock system. I’ve heard great things about the Inokey fingerprint lock, but I’m not sure how it integrates with HomeKit or other platforms. Any recommendations or experiences would be invaluable!
I’m also thinking about how to optimize my energy consumption. I’ve got FBH heating systems with smart thermostats, and I’m curious about how to set up more advanced automation rules to save energy without sacrificing comfort. For example, I’d love to have my heating adjust based on occupancy and weather conditions automatically.
As I start this project, I’m wondering if there are any essential devices or integrations I might be overlooking. I’m also curious about the best practices for organizing my devices and setting up flows for smooth automation. If anyone has gone through a similar process or has tips for a first-time smart home enthusiast, I’d be thrilled to hear from you!
Thank you all in advance for your insights and advice. Let’s make this journey as smooth and enjoyable as possible! ![]()
