I wanted to share my recent smart home setup journey, which has been a mix of excitement, frustration, and triumph. I hope this post can inspire others and maybe even help someone avoid some common pitfalls!First off, I’ve been diving into Z-Wave devices lately. I recently added an Aeotec Range Extender 7 to my setup, but it was a bit of a rollercoaster. I kept running into this endless loop of inclusion and removal, which was super frustrating. After some research and reaching out to the community, I discovered that resetting the device and ensuring a clean start helped a lot. Now, it’s working seamlessly! 
Another area I’ve been exploring is smart lighting. I’ve been experimenting with Govee Christmas lights and some Wiz bulbs. It’s amazing how these devices can transform my space, but I did run into an issue where some bulbs would drop offline after a few minutes. I’m still troubleshooting this, but I suspect it might be related to firmware updates or network stability. I’ll keep you posted on that! 
I’ve also been trying to integrate some older devices into my setup. For instance, I have a Fibaro nano dimmer that I’ve been having trouble excluding and including properly. After some trial and error, I realized that a clean factory reset and ensuring the hub was in the right mode made all the difference. It’s a good reminder to always double-check the basics before getting too frustrated. 
One thing I’ve learned through all this is the importance of community support. Whether it’s forums like this, Reddit, or even local meetups, connecting with others who’ve gone through similar experiences has been invaluable. Lastly, I wanted to give a shoutout to the open-source community. Tools like MQTT and Node-RED have been game-changers for me. They’ve allowed me to create custom automations and integrations that really make my smart home feel personalized. If you’re not familiar with these tools, I highly recommend giving them a try!
