I started by purchasing a few key devices to get things rolling—Govee smart lights, a Wyze camera, and an Echo Dot. The goal was to create a seamless system that could be controlled through Alexa and integrated with Home Assistant. However, the road wasn’t always smooth.
One of the first challenges I encountered was pairing the Govee lights with my account. The lights were brand new, but the app kept saying they were already paired with another account. After some research, I discovered a workaround by resetting the lights multiple times and ensuring no other devices were interfering. It was a bit frustrating, but persistence paid off!
Camera Configuration
Next up was setting up the Wyze camera. I wanted to access the live feed through my daughter’s Android phone, but I wasn’t sure if the Tiny Cam Pro app needed to be open for it to work. After some experimentation, I found that while the app doesn’t need to be open, it does require proper configuration in the settings. This was a relief because it meant I wouldn’t need to dedicate an entire device just for monitoring.
Automation Fun
One of the most rewarding parts of this process has been creating automations. I set up a simple routine where the lights turn on when I walk into the room, thanks to motion sensors. It’s these little conveniences that really make you appreciate the potential of smart home tech.
