Smart Home Solutions and Experiences: Curtain Motion Sensors and Govee Plug Insights

Hello everyone! I wanted to share some of my recent experiences and solutions with my smart home setup, particularly focusing on motion sensors and Govee smart plugs. I hope this can help others facing similar challenges or inspire new ideas!

Curtain-Induced Motion Sensor Triggers

One of the common issues I’ve encountered is with motion sensors triggering due to curtains moving from HVAC fans or drafts. In my master bedroom, I have lightweight, silky curtains that constantly set off the motion sensors, leading to unwanted night lights turning on. After some research, I found that adjusting the sensitivity settings on the sensors was key. For the Aeon Multisensor, I adjusted it to a medium-low sensitivity setting, which still detects human movement effectively but ignores the curtain movements. For the PEQ 3-Series sensor, I discovered that while it doesn’t have a direct sensitivity adjustment, repositioning it slightly away from the curtain area made a significant difference.

Govee Smart Plug Discoveries

Another interesting discovery I’d like to share involves Govee smart plugs. I noticed that when I asked Alexa to turn off a plug, it only affected the specific plug mentioned, but when I used Google Assistant, it turned off all Govee plugs. This asymmetry in voice control behavior was intriguing. I reached out to the community, and it seems this is a known behavior where Google might interpret certain commands more broadly. To avoid unintended actions, I now use more specific commands, like “Turn off plug one” instead of just “Turn off plug.”

Lovelace Media Browser Integration

I’ve also been exploring ways to enhance my Lovelace UI. One of my favorite additions is a button that opens the media browser in a modal window. This has been especially useful for my mini media player cards that don’t have a built-in browser button. By using the browser_mod integration, I can now launch the media browser directly from my dashboard, making it easier to browse and select music without navigating away from my main view.

Community Collaboration

These experiences highlight the importance of community collaboration in troubleshooting and sharing tips. Whether it’s adjusting sensor settings, understanding voice control nuances, or enhancing UI features, the collective knowledge of the smart home community is invaluable.

I’d love to hear from others who have faced similar challenges or have innovative solutions to share. Let’s continue to support each other in creating smarter, more efficient homes!

Happy smart home tinkering! :rocket:
