Smart Home Upgrades and Innovations: My Journey and Insights

Smart home technology has truly transformed how I interact with my living space, making daily life more convenient and enjoyable. I’d like to share some of my experiences and insights, especially focusing on recent upgrades and a fun DIY project I’ve been working on.

Smart Locks and Beyond

One of the most impactful upgrades I’ve made is switching to a Philips Palm Recognition Smart Lock. It’s been a game-changer for my family, especially with how quickly and seamlessly it works. No more fumbling with keys—just a quick palm scan, even when my hands are full! The temporary access codes feature has also been incredibly handy for cleaners and visitors. It’s a small detail, but it adds a significant layer of convenience and security.

DIY Non-Touch Smart Controller

I’ve always been passionate about tinkering with technology, so I decided to tackle a project that would make my Home Assistant setup more accessible to everyone in my family. I developed a non-touch smart controller using an ESP32-S3 with a 3.5" IPS display and a rotary encoder. The idea was to create something simple yet effective, especially for those who aren’t tech-savvy.

The result? A sleek, intuitive device that allows navigation through menus with just a twist and press. It’s 100% local, integrates seamlessly with Home Assistant, and has been a hit with my family. I’ve even open-sourced the project, so others can build and customize it to suit their needs. Check it out on GitHub!

Philips Smart Water Dispenser

Another upgrade I’m absolutely thrilled about is our new Philips Smart Water Dispenser. It’s not just about convenience—it’s about enhancing our daily routines. The instant hot water feature has become a staple in our kitchen, especially for tea and coffee. Plus, the sleek design fits perfectly with our modern aesthetic.

The Future of Smart Homes

As I continue to explore and innovate within the smart home space, I’m excited to see where technology will take us. The integration of AI, like Claude Code, opens up possibilities for more intuitive and personalized automation. It’s projects like these that push the boundaries and make home automation more accessible and user-friendly.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on these upgrades and innovations. Have you tried any unique DIY projects or upgrades lately? Let’s keep the conversation going!

Happy automating! :rocket:
