I’ve been diving into the world of smart lighting lately, and I wanted to share some of my experiences and tips for anyone looking to customize their smart light strips or integrate them with other devices.
First, I’ve been experimenting with LIFX Z LED strips, which I’ve found to be incredibly versatile. While they aren’t officially listed in the SmartThings marketplace, I’ve managed to get them working seamlessly with Home Assistant using the Tuya integration. The key was ensuring the strips were properly configured in the Tuya Smart Life app before linking them to HA. I’d love to hear if others have had success with similar setups or if there are any quirks I should be aware of.
Another area I’ve been exploring is creating custom scenes using the Picture Elements card in HA. While the setup can be a bit tedious, the end result is worth it. I’ve managed to create a dynamic floorplan that changes colors based on the time of day and integrates with my smart bulbs. If anyone has tips on simplifying the YAML configuration or recommends resources for creating floorplans, I’d be grateful!
On a different note, I’ve been trying to integrate my smart lights with Alexa routines. I’d love to see more functionality added, such as notifications based on air quality or temperature readings from my Govee sensors. It would be amazing to have Alexa alert me if the air quality drops below a certain threshold or if the temperature goes above my set limit.
Lastly, I’ve been experimenting with wake-on-LAN for my home PC and have managed to get it working using the exec binding in HA. However, I’m still troubleshooting the shutdown command. If anyone has experience with similar setups or can offer advice, I’d appreciate it!
Overall, the journey of customizing and integrating smart lighting has been both challenging and rewarding. I’m excited to continue exploring and hope to hear from others who have tackled similar projects or have tips to share.
