Smart Lighting and HVAC Automation Based on Presence and Temperature

Hey everyone! I wanted to share my recent project where I integrated smart lighting and HVAC automation based on presence and temperature. It’s been a fantastic way to enhance comfort and energy efficiency at home. Here’s how I did it:

Setup Details:

  • Presence Detection: I used a combination of motion sensors and door/window sensors to detect when someone enters a room.
  • Temperature Monitoring: Each room has a temperature sensor to track the current temperature.
  • Automation Rules:
    • When a person enters a room, the lights automatically adjust to a preset brightness and color.
    • If the temperature is below a certain threshold, the HVAC system turns on the heater.
    • Conversely, if it’s too warm, the AC kicks in.
  • Integration: All these devices are connected through Home Assistant, which handles the automation logic.

Tips for Others:

  1. Calibrate Sensors: Spend some time adjusting the sensitivity of your motion sensors to avoid false triggers.
  2. Temperature Thresholds: Set realistic temperature thresholds based on your comfort levels to prevent unnecessary HVAC usage.
  3. Energy Monitoring: Pair your setup with an energy monitoring system to track savings and optimize settings further.

This project has made my home much more comfortable and energy-efficient. I’d love to hear about your smart home automation experiences or any tips you might have!
