Smart Lighting and Motion Sensing: A Year of Success and a Glitch

After successfully using Room Lighting for my garage overhead lights for over a year, I wanted to share my experience and a small issue I encountered recently. My setup includes a few motion sensors and a custom contact driver that activates motion if my kitchen garage door opens. I’ve also set a restriction to prevent the lights from turning on if my Hue Patio motion sensor’s illuminance is greater than 250. All in all, it’s been working perfectly!

The reason for this post is a minor glitch I noticed. If I physically turn on the lights during the day when the Hue Patio Motion’s illuminance is above my set threshold of 250, the lights never turn off. It seems the Room Lighting rule doesn’t activate when the switch is physically turned on. I’m wondering if there’s a way to ensure the app activates even with this physical input, especially when the illuminance threshold is met. Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

On a lighter note, I’ve also been exploring other smart home gadgets, like the Wyze Scale. It’s been a great addition to my setup, but I’m curious if others have found ways to manage multiple users without individual accounts. Any tips or tricks would be fantastic!

Overall, my experience with smart lighting and motion sensing has been incredibly positive. It’s amazing how these devices can enhance daily life with just a bit of setup and tweaking. I’m excited to continue exploring and optimizing my smart home setup!
