I’ve been diving into the world of smart lighting and automation, and I wanted to share some of my experiences and tips with the community. ![]()
First off, I’ve been absolutely thrilled with my Govee LED strips and light bars. They’ve transformed my home into a customizable wonderland, and the fact that I don’t need to paint anymore is a huge bonus!
Whether I want my room green, orange, or even black (a bit tricky, but doable), Govee has got my back. Huge shoutout to @GOVEE for creating such versatile products! ![]()
On the automation front, I’ve been experimenting with setting up a system that turns on my office lights when I wake up my computer and turns them off after a delay when the computer goes to sleep. My current setup works, but it feels a bit clunky. I’m curious if there’s a cleaner, more streamlined approach out there. Any recommendations or examples would be greatly appreciated! ![]()

Another topic I’ve been exploring is device compatibility, especially with older systems. I have a wired Hills alarm system that I’d love to integrate with Home Assistant. It works perfectly on its own, but finding the right integration has been a bit of a challenge. Has anyone successfully integrated an older wired system with Home Assistant? Any tips or resources would be invaluable! ![]()

Lastly, I’ve been thinking about security cameras and the importance of reliable recording. While I love the idea of having HD live feeds, the monthly fees for cloud storage can be a bit steep. I’m wondering if there’s a way to connect a local storage device or a small computer to record footage without relying on the cloud. Any thoughts or experiences on this would be fantastic! ![]()
