Smart Lighting Automation and Custom Icons

I’ve been diving into the world of smart lighting automation and custom icons in Home Assistant, and I wanted to share my journey and some tips I’ve picked up along the way. :rocket:

First, I’ve been working on creating a more personalized dashboard. I stumbled upon the idea of using mdi icons instead of plain text, which really elevates the visual appeal of my setup. For instance, I wanted to display a window icon next to the count of open windows in my office. After some research and trial and error, I found that using the mdi:window-open icon worked perfectly! It’s now a sleek addition to my dashboard. :tada:

Next, I’ve been experimenting with automated brightness adjustments for my bedroom lights. The goal is to have the lights dim to 10% brightness at night when I wake up, and return to full brightness during the day. This has been a bit of a challenge, but I’ve discovered that using a combination of time-based automations and hardware switches (like pulse switches) can achieve this seamlessly. It’s been a game-changer for creating a more comfortable sleep environment. :bed::sparkles:

I’ve also been thinking about integrating more smart devices into my home. I came across the Govee RGBIC strip lights, and they’ve been a fantastic addition to my setup. Their vibrant colors and easy integration with Home Assistant have really transformed my living space. Plus, the ability to customize scenes and schedules has made my home feel even more personalized. :rainbow::bulb:

One thing I’m still exploring is how to disable the live camera feed when I’m at home for privacy reasons. I’ve heard that this can be done through specific settings, but I’m still figuring out the best approach. If anyone has tips or tricks for this, I’d love to hear them! :male_detective::male_sign:

All in all, the journey of setting up and customizing my smart home has been incredibly rewarding. It’s amazing how technology can make our lives more convenient and enjoyable. I can’t wait to see what other innovations I can incorporate into my setup next! :rocket::sparkles:
