I recently acquired the Govee Ai Gaming kit and an H6144 32ft RGBIC strip from the Savvy User store, and I’m thrilled to share my setup and experiences with the community.First, I wanted to create a dynamic lighting system that can adapt to different moods and activities. I use Home Assistant, and I wanted the RGBIC strip to be fully controllable through the platform. After some research, I discovered that using the MQTT binding was the way to go. I set up the strip to communicate via MQTT, allowing me to control it through my smartphone or voice commands using Alexa.I also wanted to automate the lighting to switch between different modes automatically. For instance, during gaming sessions, I programmed the lights to cycle through predefined modes every 5 minutes, adding a dynamic flair to the room. This feature not only enhances the gaming experience but also makes parties and social gatherings more lively.Another aspect I focused on was energy efficiency and reliability. I equipped my setup with a Back-UPS NS 1080 to ensure that my devices stay powered during brief power outages. It’s reassuring to know that my system remains operational even during unexpected power cuts.I also explored integrating the RGBIC strip with my existing smart devices, such as Amazon Echo Studios and Fire TV Cube. This integration allows for synchronized lighting effects when watching movies or listening to music, creating a more immersive audio-visual experience.However, I encountered a few hiccups along the way. Initially, I struggled with setting up the MQTT binding correctly. The logs showed that the client was connecting but not sending or receiving messages. After some troubleshooting, I realized that the MQTT broker needed proper configuration, including SSL settings, which I had overlooked. Once that was sorted, everything fell into place.I also experimented with creating custom scenes and automations. For example, I programmed the lights to dim gradually in the evening, creating a relaxing ambiance, and to brighten in the morning to simulate natural sunlight. These automations have significantly improved my daily routine and comfort.In terms of future plans, I’m considering adding more RGBIC strips to other areas of my home, such as the kitchen and living room, to create a unified and cohesive smart lighting system.
