I’ve been experimenting with smart lighting automation in my home, and I wanted to share my experience and some tips that might help others.
First, I started by setting up a simple automation using my Wyze smart bulbs. The goal was to have the lights turn on automatically when motion is detected in the hallway. It’s such a small thing, but it’s made a huge difference in terms of safety, especially at night. I used the built-in motion sensor integration in Home Assistant to trigger the lights, and it works seamlessly.
One thing I struggled with initially was getting the brightness just right. I didn’t want the lights to be too bright and disrupt my sleep, but they also needed to be bright enough to provide clear visibility. After some trial and error, I found that setting the brightness to 60% was the perfect balance.
Another feature I’ve been loving is the ability to schedule the lights to turn on and off at specific times. For example, during the early morning hours, the lights now gently come on to simulate sunrise, making it easier to wake up naturally. I also set the lights to dim gradually in the evening, creating a calming atmosphere before bed.
I’d love to hear from others who have implemented similar lighting automations. What are your favorite features or tips for optimizing smart lighting in your home? Let’s share and learn together! ![]()
