Smart Lighting Automation for Festive Occasions

I’m thrilled to share my recent project where I automated my Christmas lights using Home Assistant and Sengled Element Color Plus bulbs. It’s been a fantastic way to add some festive cheer to my home!

Setup and Challenges
I started by replacing all my E26/E27 bulbs with the Sengled Color Plus ones. Pairing them with my HUSBZB-1 was straightforward, and controlling them via Home Assistant worked perfectly. Initially, I set them up in an alternating red/green pattern, but I wanted something more dynamic.

Automation Goals
My vision was to have the lights switch between red and green every 1.5 seconds, creating a synchronized effect. I also wanted them to turn off automatically at a specific time each night. This required some clever automation setup.

How I Achieved It
I divided my fixtures into odd and even groups. Using Home Assistant’s automation rules, I programmed the odd-numbered lights to start red and the even ones green. After 1.5 seconds, all lights switch states simultaneously. This creates a seamless, synchronized effect that’s perfect for the festive season.

Tips for Others

  1. Grouping Fixtures: Organizing your lights into groups based on their positions makes automation much easier.
  2. Timing: Experiment with different timing intervals to find what looks best in your space.
  3. Scheduling: Use Home Assistant’s scheduling features to turn the lights off automatically, ensuring energy efficiency.

Conclusion
This project has been a delightful way to incorporate smart technology into my holiday decorations. It’s not just about convenience; it’s about creating a warm, festive atmosphere. I hope this inspires others to explore similar automation projects!

Happy holidays and happy automating! :tada:
