Smart Lighting Automation for Plant Growth

I recently set up a smart lighting system for my chili plants using Home Assistant, and it’s been a fantastic experience! :herb: I wanted to ensure my plants get enough light, especially during the shorter days of winter. Here’s how I did it:

  1. Scheduled On/Off: I created a rule to turn on the grow lights at 6:00 AM and 3:00 PM, and turn them off at 9:00 AM and 7:00 PM. This ensures consistent lighting throughout the day.

  2. Motion Sensor Adjustment: I added a motion sensor to adjust the lighting based on natural light levels. If the room’s illumination drops below 1700 lux between 9:01 AM and 2:59 PM, the grow lights automatically turn on. Conversely, if the light exceeds 1800 lux, they turn off after 9:10 AM until 2:50 PM.

While the timed schedule works perfectly, the motion sensor part hasn’t been as reliable. I’m still troubleshooting why the lights aren’t turning on when the lux level drops. If anyone has experience with similar setups, I’d love to hear your tips!

This project has been a great way to combine my love for gardening with smart home technology. It’s amazing how automation can help create the perfect environment for plants. :sun_with_face:

Do you have any smart gardening setups or tips to share? I’d love to hear about them!
