Hey everyone, I’m really excited to share some of my experiences and tips with smart lighting automation!
I’ve been experimenting with motion detection and timers on my Govee strip lights, and I thought I’d walk through what I’ve learned so far. Hopefully, this can help others who are just starting out or looking to refine their setup! Motion Detection Challenges & Solutions I’ve been using a Wyze Cam v3 for motion detection, and while it’s fantastic for live streaming, I ran into an issue where the floodlight wouldn’t trigger consistently when I pulled into the driveway. After some trial and error, I realized adjusting the sensitivity and detection zones made a big difference. I also found that disabling the PIR sensor and relying solely on the camera’s motion detection helped reduce false triggers from street activity. If you’re dealing with similar issues, I’d recommend experimenting with these settings to find the right balance for your space. Timer Automation Fun Speaking of balancing, I’ve been loving the ability to set multiple timers on my Govee strip lights. It’s been a game-changer for creating ambiance throughout the day without manually adjusting settings. For example, I set one timer to dim the lights in the evening for a cozy vibe and another to brighten them back up in the morning for a natural wake-up call. If you’re using Govee and haven’t explored this feature yet, I highly recommend giving it a try! DIY Projects & Community Inspiration One of the best parts of this journey has been seeing the incredible DIY projects others have shared. From neon light installations to creative uses of smart curtains, the community has been a constant source of inspiration. I’ve even started brainstorming my own projects, like integrating my Govee lights with a home security system for added convenience and safety. A Word of Thanks I’d like to extend a huge thank you to everyone in the community who shares their knowledge and experiences. Whether it’s troubleshooting tips, setup guides, or just showing off your latest project, each contribution helps us all learn and grow. Here’s to many more innovative ideas and successful automations ahead!
If anyone has tips or tricks for improving motion detection accuracy or creative timer setups, I’d love to hear them in the comments! Let’s keep the conversation going and continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible with smart lighting! ![]()
