Smart Lighting Automation: Motion + Lux = Perfect Balance

I’ve been experimenting with creating a seamless lighting automation in my bedroom, and I wanted to share my journey and tips with the community. My goal was to have the lights turn on when motion is detected and it’s dark, but also make sure they stay on as long as motion is present—even if the room gets brighter due to external light.

Here’s what I learned:

  1. Initial Trigger Conditions: I set up the automation to check the light level (lux) only once when the automation is first triggered. This prevents the lights from turning off prematurely when the room gets brighter after they’re already on.

  2. Motion Sensitivity: I adjusted the motion sensor settings to ensure it’s not too sensitive (to avoid false triggers) but still catches movement reliably.

  3. Timing is Everything: I added a small delay before turning the lights off after motion stops. This prevents the lights from flickering off if there’s a brief pause in movement.

  4. Testing, Testing, Testing: I spent a few days tweaking the settings and observing how it performs during different times of the day and under various lighting conditions.

Would love to hear if others have tackled similar challenges or have tips to make this even more refined! :rocket:
