Smart Lighting Automation Tips for Summer

Summer is here, and I’ve been thinking about optimizing my smart lighting setup to make the most of the longer days. I’ve been using CoRE for years, but now that I’ve switched to WebCoRE, it’s getting me excited about what’s possible.

One thing I’ve been struggling with is adjusting my lighting automation for the summer months. In the winter, I set my lights to turn on 30 minutes before sunset, which works well because it gets dark quickly. But in the summer, 30 minutes just isn’t enough—it’s already pretty dark by then. I think I need to extend that to about 2 hours before sunset.

I’m considering a few different approaches:

  • Seasonal Adjustment: Adjust the timing based on the month of the year.
  • Sunset Time Calculation: Use the actual sunset time to calculate the offset dynamically.
  • Lux Threshold: Use a light sensor to trigger the lights based on ambient light levels.

I’d love to hear what others have done for their summer lighting setups. Have you found a reliable LUX threshold for triggering lights? Also, I’m assuming I can add a condition to ignore the Lux level if the lights are already on, and just refresh the timer on new motion detection. Any advice would be appreciated!

Let’s make the most of these long summer evenings with some smart lighting automation! :night_with_stars::sparkles:
