Here’s how it works: When I approach my home, my Zigbee motion sensor detects my presence. This triggers the Advanced Scheduler, which checks if it’s dark outside using the built-in darkness sensor. If it is, the exterior lights gently turn on, illuminating the pathway and making it safer for me to enter. The transition is seamless, and it’s like having a personal assistant greet me at the door!
I’ve also integrated this with my smart thermostat, so if it’s cold outside, the heating kicks in just as I walk in. It’s these little touches that make a big difference. I’ve been using the Zigbee2MQTT integration for this, and it’s been incredibly reliable. However, setting it up did take some trial and error, especially getting the scheduler to communicate properly with the motion sensor.
One thing I’d love to explore further is integrating this with my RGBW LED strips to create a customizable lighting scene based on the time of day or my mood. Imagine walking in to a soft, warm glow in the evening or a vibrant, energizing light in the morning. The possibilities are endless!
