Smart Lighting Automation with Alexa Routines

Hey everyone! I just wanted to share my experience with setting up smart lighting automation using Alexa routines. I’ve been really impressed with how customizable and efficient this setup is, and I thought it might be helpful for others who are looking to streamline their home lighting.

I have a set of Wyze bulbs in my living room, and I wanted to create a routine that adjusts the color temperature throughout the day. The goal was to have the bulbs switch to warm white in the morning and cool white during the day. While setting this up, I noticed something interesting: if I turned the lights off after the initial warm white setting at 6 AM and then turned them back on after 11 AM, they remained warm white instead of switching to cool white as intended.

At first, I was a bit puzzled. I thought maybe the bulbs weren’t receiving the routine update when they were off. After doing some research, I realized this might be a limitation with how the bulbs handle routines when they’re not actively connected. However, I found a workaround by ensuring the bulbs stay connected to the network even when turned off. This way, they can receive the routine updates in real-time.

I also explored integrating this setup with my existing smart home ecosystem, which includes a mix of Zigbee and Z-Wave devices. It’s been a great learning experience, and I’m excited to see how this can be further optimized. If anyone has tips or tricks for improving this setup, I’d love to hear them!

Overall, I’m really happy with how this automation is working out. It’s made my mornings brighter and my afternoons more comfortable, all with just a bit of setup. Thanks to the community for all the inspiration and support!
