I recently upgraded my lighting system with IKEA Zigbee GU10 bulbs and have been exploring ways to make them work seamlessly with my smart home setup. One feature that I’ve been particularly excited about is setting up a morning routine where the lights gradually brighten to wake me up naturally. However, I ran into an interesting challenge: I wanted the lights to start in a dimmed state in the morning and then transition to full brightness after a set period.
After some research and experimentation, I found a great solution using Home Assistant’s automation feature. Here’s how I set it up:
- Dimming in the Morning: I configured the bulbs to automatically turn on at a dimmed level (around 30%) at 6:30 AM. This ensures a gentle start to the day without the harsh glare of fully lit bulbs.
- Gradual Brightening: Using the built-in automation, I programmed the lights to increase their brightness every 15 minutes. By 7:00 AM, they’re at full brightness, providing a smooth transition from night to day.
- Custom Scenes: I also created a scene called “Morning Routine” that includes not just the lights but also the coffee maker and a gentle alarm sound. This way, everything kicks off simultaneously for a perfectly orchestrated start to my day.
The setup has been working beautifully, and I love how it enhances my morning routine. If anyone has tips on further optimizing this or other lighting automations, I’d love to hear them! ![]()
