Smart Lighting Automation with Shelly Devices: My Experience and Tips

Hey everyone, I wanted to share my journey with setting up smart lighting automation using Shelly devices. It’s been an exciting project, and I’ve learned a lot along the way!

Starting with the Basics
I began by connecting a few Shelly Dimmers to my LED lights. The goal was to create a seamless dimming experience without any flickering. After some research, I found that calibrating the dimmers properly was key. I made sure to set them in trailing edge mode, which helped with the smooth transition of brightness levels.

Automating My Daily Routine
One of the most satisfying parts of this setup has been automating my morning routine. I integrated my Shelly devices with Alexa, so when I say, ‘Good morning,’ the lights gradually turn on to simulate sunrise. It’s such a nice way to start the day!

Challenges and Solutions
I did run into a few issues, like inconsistent brightness levels when the dimmers were set to 100%. After some troubleshooting, I realized it was a firmware issue. Updating to the latest version fixed the problem, and now everything works smoothly.

Tips for Others
If you’re planning to set up similar automation, here are a few tips:

  • Calibrate Properly: Spend time calibrating your dimmers to avoid any unexpected behavior.
  • Firmware Updates: Always ensure your devices are up to date.
  • Integration Testing: Test your automation rules thoroughly to catch any bugs early.

I’m really happy with how this project turned out. It’s been a great way to enhance my home’s comfort and efficiency. If anyone has questions or wants to share their own experiences, I’d love to hear from you!
