Smart Lighting Automation with Shelly Devices

I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation, and I must say, it’s been an exciting journey! One of my recent projects has been setting up a smart lighting system using Shelly devices. I wanted to share my experience and some tips I’ve picked up along the way.

My Setup
I’ve got a mix of Shelly 1s and Shelly 1PMs controlling various lights around my home. The goal was to create a system that’s both energy-efficient and easy to manage. I’ve integrated these devices with Home Assistant, and it’s been a breeze to set up custom automations.

Challenges and Solutions
One thing I initially struggled with was configuring the Shelly devices to work as monostable switches. I wanted the lights to toggle on/off only when the switch is pressed, not on every state change. After some research, I realized that while the Shelly firmware doesn’t support this out of the box, Home Assistant’s automation feature could handle it seamlessly. This was a great workaround and saved me from having to rely solely on the device’s settings.

Energy Management Tips
I’ve also been experimenting with energy management. I set up a simple automation where the lights dim to 30% brightness after 10 PM, helping reduce energy consumption without sacrificing comfort. Pairing this with motion sensors has taken it to the next level—lights automatically adjust based on presence and time of day.

Community Insights
I’ve noticed that many in the community are also exploring similar setups. It’s amazing to see the creativity and problem-solving skills everyone brings to the table. For instance, some users have shared brilliant hacks for integrating non-smart devices into their smart home ecosystems. These insights have been invaluable for refining my own setup.

Looking Ahead
As I continue to expand my smart home, I’m excited to explore more advanced automation scenarios. Maybe even integrating some of my outdoor lighting with weather sensors to ensure they adapt to changing conditions automatically.

If anyone has tips or experiences to share, especially regarding energy-efficient setups or creative automation ideas, I’d love to hear them! Let’s keep the conversation going and continue pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with smart home technology. :rocket:
