Smart Lighting for a Zen Workspace

I’ve always been a bit of a workaholic, and when my 6-year-old daughter is out of school during holidays or summer, I can get a bit frazzled. So, I decided to create a calming workspace for myself. I placed a small fountain on the hutch above my desk, and the sound of trickling water is incredibly soothing—it takes me back to camping and finding little streams after a good rain. But I wanted to enhance the experience with smart lighting.

I installed a Philips Hue light bulb with a motion sensor in my hallway, which is only about 6 feet long. It’s been a game-changer! My 13-year-old daughter no longer needs to manually switch the lights on and off, which was a constant source of frustration for both of us. The motion sensor automatically turns the lights on when she enters the hallway and turns them off after a few minutes of inactivity. It’s such a simple solution, but it’s made a huge difference in our daily routine.

For my workspace, I decided to go with a warm, ambient lighting setup. I paired my fountain with a set of Govee LED strips that I can control via an app. The ability to customize the color and brightness has been amazing—I can set a calming blue tone during stressful days or switch to a warmer orange for a cozy vibe. The best part? I can even sync the lights with my fountain to create a mini zen garden right in my workspace.

If you’re looking to create a calming environment at home, I highly recommend experimenting with smart lighting. It’s a small investment that can have a big impact on your daily life. Let me know if you have any questions or tips for creating your own zen space—I’d love to hear your ideas!
