Hi everyone, I’m currently in the process of refining my smart lighting system and thought I’d share some insights from my experiences with different brands. My goal is to find the best balance between performance, reliability, and compatibility with Alexa. Here’s what I’ve discovered so far:
Kasa Smart Dimmers
- Integration: Kasa offers native Alexa support without the need for a hub, which is a huge plus. Device discovery is usually seamless and quick.
- Performance: Latency is around 300-600ms when using the physical switch, which is acceptable for most scenarios. Grouped commands work smoothly with minimal lag.
- Pros: Stable firmware updates and reliable performance with most dimmable LEDs.
- Cons: Limited custom dim curve control.
ELEGRP Dimmers
- Integration: Direct Alexa integration without a hub. Pairs effortlessly via the ELEGRP app and recognized instantly by Alexa.
- Performance: Latency is slightly better at 200-400ms. Zero flicker or buzz at low brightness levels, which is a big win for my home office setup.
- Pros: Compatible with a wide range of LEDs and offers clean installation with intuitive terminals.
- Cons: Lacks some smart scheduling features compared to other brands.
Treatlife Dimmers
- Integration: Supports both Alexa and Google Assistant, which is great for a multi-platform ecosystem. Device discovery is quick, though occasional disconnections have been an issue.
- Performance: Latency ranges from 100-300ms, offering the smoothest experience among the three. Adjustable from 1% to 100%, though there’s some flickering at higher brightness levels with certain LED setups.
- Pros: Flexible wiring options and affordable pricing compared to competitors.
- Cons: Connectivity issues and occasional disconnections can be frustrating.
Curious to Hear Your Thoughts
I’d love to hear how others prioritize performance versus features. Have you benchmarked Zigbee dimmers against these Wi-Fi options for latency and control granularity? Any real-world data or experiences you’d like to share would be invaluable!
Thanks for reading, and I look forward to your insights!
Best regards,
