Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent success in integrating my Philips Hue lighting system with SmartThings. I’ve been using both platforms for a while now, but I was struggling with getting them to work seamlessly together—until now! ![]()
For those who might be facing similar challenges, I’ll walk you through my setup and some tips I’ve picked up along the way.
The Setup:
I have multiple Hue lights and color strips distributed across my home. I’ve always loved the flexibility and color options Hue provides, but I wanted to take it a step further by automating them with SmartThings. The goal was to create a unified system where I could control all my lights from one place and set up some cool automations.
The Challenge:
Initially, I noticed that SmartThings wasn’t picking up all my Hue rooms. Specifically, my living room setup wasn’t grouping properly—it was only recognizing individual lights instead of the whole room. This meant I had to create multiple rules just to control a few lights, which was frustrating.
The Solution:
After some research and trial and error, I figured out that the issue was with how the rooms were configured in the Hue app. I had to ensure that each room was properly set up in Hue before SmartThings could recognize it. Once I adjusted that, everything started working like magic! ![]()

**Tips for Others:**1. Double-Check Your Hue Configurations: Make sure each room or group is correctly set up in the Hue app before integrating with SmartThings.2. Use SmartThings Automations: Once everything is connected, you can create amazing automations. For example, I set up my lights to gradually brighten in the morning and dim at night based on my sunrise/sunset settings.3. Experiment with Scenes: Hue’s scenes feature is perfect for creating different lighting moods. Combine this with SmartThings automations, and you can create a truly immersive smart home experience.
The Result:
Now, my home feels more connected than ever. I can control my lights with my voice, through the SmartThings app, or even via my Amazon Echo. It’s been a game-changer for how I manage my home’s lighting. ![]()
