Hi everyone! I wanted to share my recent experience setting up a smart lighting system and some insights I’ve gained along the way. I’ve been experimenting with integrating different brands of smart lights and switches, and it’s been quite an adventure!
First, I started with the basics—installing some Govee LED strips in my living room. They’ve been fantastic, offering a wide range of colors and brightness levels. However, I ran into an issue with the brightness control on the always-on display. I’d love to make it dimmer while keeping the watch face bright. Has anyone figured out how to adjust this setting? Any tips would be appreciated!
Next, I decided to add some motion sensors for energy efficiency. I came across the Aeotec motion sensor, which is supposed to be low-power, but I noticed that the battery drains extremely fast, even with minimal usage. It’s about 30 feet away from my hub, and it gets activated 5-10 times a day. Any ideas on how to optimize this or troubleshoot the issue?
I also tried integrating some GE Z-Wave wall switches into my setup. They work perfectly, but I’m curious about their behavior during power outages. Do they stay off after the power comes back on, or do they revert to their previous state? This is crucial for my use case, as I’d like them to remain off post-outage.
Another interesting project I’m working on is setting up Wyze cameras with the Echo Show 8. The camera view is initially very small, which is quite annoying. I’d love to know if there’s a way to set it to full screen by default. Any workarounds or settings adjustments that could help with this?
On the software side, I’ve been exploring OpenHAB for more advanced automation. Upgrading to version 3.2 was a bit tricky, but I managed to get it running smoothly after some adjustments. For anyone planning to upgrade, I’d recommend checking out the latest Docker images and ensuring all dependencies are up to date.
Lastly, I’ve been thinking about expanding my setup with more advanced devices like the Wyze Hygrometer and Thermometer. I’m particularly interested in multi-packs for easier installation and monitoring across different rooms. If Govee or Wyze ever offers a 4-pack option, that’d be perfect!
Overall, my journey into smart lighting and home automation has been both challenging and rewarding. Each new device or feature brings a fresh perspective and a chance to learn something new. I’m excited to see how these systems evolve and how I can integrate them even more seamlessly into my daily life.
If anyone has tips, tricks, or experiences to share, especially regarding device compatibility and optimization, I’d love to hear them! Let’s keep the conversation going and help each other make our smart homes even smarter!
Cheers, [Your Name]
