Smart Lighting Setup and Customization Tips

Hi everyone, I’ve been diving into the world of smart lighting lately and wanted to share some of my experiences and tips for anyone looking to set up or customize their own system.

I started with the Fibaro RGBW controller and LED strips, aiming for a seamless integration with my existing setup. While the built-in effects are great, I wanted more control over the color fading. After some trial and error, I managed to create a rule using variables to smoothly transition between colors. Here’s a quick breakdown of how it works:

  • Variables: I used a string variable to track the direction of the fade (Up or Down) and a number variable for the current hue value.
  • Automation: By adjusting the hue value incrementally, I achieved a smooth fade effect. Increasing or decreasing the hue by 1 each iteration worked well for my setup, but finer adjustments (like 0.25 increments) could provide an even smoother transition.

This setup has been perfect for creating themed lighting, like my Valentine’s Day experiment with purple-to-red fades. It’s also a great foundation for more complex holiday lighting displays!

If anyone has tips for improving the smoothness or suggestions for other color transitions, I’d love to hear them. Also, if you’re looking to integrate different brands or devices, feel free to share your experiences—I’m always on the lookout for new ideas!

Cheers, and happy lighting!
