Hey everyone! I just wanted to share my experience setting up smart lighting for the 4th of July celebrations.
I’ve been using Govee LED strips and Shelly dimmers for a while now, and they’ve been a lifesaver for creating those patriotic light shows!
This year, I decided to go all out with a red, white, and blue light chaser effect around my house. I’ve seen a few tutorials online, but I wanted something a bit more custom. Here’s what I did:
-
Planning the Layout: I mapped out the areas where I wanted the lights to go, focusing on the front porch, windows, and backyard. Using the Govee app, I created zones for each section to make programming easier.
-
Setting Up the Chaser Effect: I used the built-in scenes in the Govee app to create a sequence that alternates between red, white, and blue. The Shelly dimmers allowed me to adjust the brightness smoothly, which really makes the effect pop!
-
Timing and Automation: I integrated everything with my Hubitat ecosystem. Using a simple rule, I set the lights to activate at sunset and run the chaser effect every 15 minutes. It’s been a hit with the neighbors!
If anyone has tips for making the color transitions even smoother, I’d love to hear them! ![]()
Happy 4th of July everyone! Let’s keep those smart homes shining bright! ![]()
