Halloween is just around the corner, and I wanted to share my experience setting up smart lighting for this spooky season! ![]()
This year, I decided to go all out with my outdoor decorations. I’ve been using Govee string lights for a while now, and they’ve been a game-changer for creating those eerie yet festive vibes. I’ve set them up around my porch and even integrated them with my Home Assistant system for some automated Halloween magic!
Here’s what I did:
- Automated Scare Effects: I connected my Govee lights to my smart speaker system. Using Home Assistant, I programmed the lights to flicker and change colors when motion is detected. It’s surprisingly effective at spooking the neighbors!

- DIY Pumpkin Display: I created a centerpiece with a large pumpkin and used RGB strip lights inside to light it up. The color transitions are perfect for creating that haunted feel!
- Battery-Life Hacks: Since I’m using battery-powered lights, I’ve been really impressed with how long they last. I’ve optimized their settings to ensure they stay lit throughout the night without draining too quickly.
I’d love to hear how everyone else is setting up their Halloween decorations! Any tips or tricks you’ve found useful? Let’s share and make this Halloween the best one yet! ![]()
