Hi everyone! I’m a newbie to smart home setups and I need your help designing a simple, reliable solution for our hallway. Let me share what I have and what I want to achieve.
Current Setup:
- One lamp with three GU10 bulbs
- Two traditional wall switches (typical Austrian setup – Wechselschaltung)
- Located in Austria (EU), so the solution needs to be compatible with EU wiring and available here.
Desired Features:
- Scheduled Shutdown: The light turns off at 10 a.m. if it was left on. I often forget to turn it off, so this would be super helpful!
- Motion Activation: Motion-activated in the afternoon and dimmed motion-activation in the evening.
- Switch Compatibility: Must work regardless of the switch state. I’d like to keep both wall switches functional.
Considerations:
I’m considering smart bulbs like Philips Hue GU10, but I’m confused about how to integrate them with physical switches. I remember that smart bulbs need constant power, which might complicate things. We already use a Shelly 2PM Pro for our blinds, and I really liked the automations there. But wiring was tricky since we had to get additional power from a socket below the switch. I’m not sure if that’s the way to go here.
Questions:- What’s the best way to integrate smart bulbs with traditional switches in an Austrian setup?- Are there any other smart lighting solutions that might be easier to install and maintain?- How can I ensure that motion activation works seamlessly with the existing switches?
Any ideas or recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Especially solutions that work with typical Austrian wiring and let us keep both switches + add motion automations. Thanks in advance! ![]()
