Smart Lighting Setup in My Basement

Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience setting up a smart lighting system in my basement. It’s been a fun project, and I’m excited to talk about what I’ve learned and how I tackled some challenges along the way.

So, the goal was to transform my 30-square-meter basement into a cozy living and gaming space. I knew lighting was going to be key, so I decided to go all in with a smart setup. I wanted multiple light sources—specifically, a dimmable RGBWW LED panel, a dimmable LED strip, and an LED lamp—all controlled from a single switch near the door. Plus, I wanted the flexibility to control each light source individually through my CCU3 system.

At first, I was a bit overwhelmed by the options available. I came across this wall switch that supports RGB and CCT lighting, which seemed perfect. It allows me to adjust color temperature, brightness, and even select individual light sources, which is exactly what I was looking for. I also considered using an old smartphone or tablet as a controller, but the wall switch seemed more elegant and user-friendly.

I ended up going with the Shelly Dimmer 2 as my controller. It was a bit tricky to set up at first, but once I got the hang of it, it worked like a charm. I love how it integrates seamlessly with my CCU3 system, giving me the best of both worlds—manual control and smart automation.

One thing I learned is the importance of planning the layout of your lights. I had to experiment a bit with different color temperatures and brightness levels to create the right ambiance. Now, I can easily switch between warm, cozy lighting for movie nights and cooler, brighter lighting for gaming sessions.

Overall, I’m really happy with how the project turned out. It’s made my basement a much more versatile and enjoyable space. If you’re thinking about a similar project, my advice is to start small, test different setups, and don’t hesitate to reach out to the community for help. There’s a wealth of knowledge and support here that can make your project a success!

Looking forward to hearing about your smart lighting setups and any tips you might have. Cheers!
