I’ve been diving into creating a smart lighting setup using Govee LED strips and some motion sensors, and I thought I’d share my experience and some tips for anyone looking to do something similar.
First, I wanted to create a welcoming ambiance in my living room, so I went with Govee’s 16.4ft LED strip lights. They’re perfect for under-cabinet lighting and adding some color to the room. The app integration is seamless, and the color modes are a blast to experiment with—especially the music sync feature during parties!
One thing I struggled with initially was getting the motion sensors to work seamlessly with the lights. I ended up using openHAB to set up some automation rules. For example, when the motion sensor detects movement in the evening, the lights automatically switch to a warm yellow hue and dim to 50%. It’s cozy and energy-efficient.
I also wanted to ensure that the lights could be controlled both manually and through voice commands. Setting up routines in the Govee app made this a breeze. Now, I can say, ‘Hey Google, turn on the living room lights’ or adjust the color temperature with just a few taps on my phone.
A tip I’d give to anyone starting out is to map out your room’s layout and think about where the lights will make the most impact. Also, don’t underestimate the importance of good wiring and ensuring all your devices are on the same network.
This setup has completely transformed my space, and I’m loving how customizable everything is. If anyone has questions or wants to share their own smart lighting projects, I’d love to hear about them!
