Hello everyone! I’m really excited to dive into the world of smart home automation, and lighting is definitely at the top of my list. I’ve been researching how to integrate smart lighting into my home, but I’ve hit a bit of a snag. Let me share my journey and see if anyone can offer some guidance!
So, here’s the deal: I’ve got several lighting circuits in my home—living room, dining area, basement stairs, and a couple of utility areas. I want to upgrade them all to smart lighting, but here’s the catch: all my lighting is currently set up with two-way switching (also known as Wechselschaltung in Germany) without a neutral wire in the switch boxes. I’ve been looking into smart switches, specifically ones that don’t require replacing the existing LED bulbs, and I’ve run into a bit of a wall with Homematic since it seems to require a neutral wire.
My goal is to control these lights using smart switches, keep the existing LED bulbs, and maintain the ability to control them via physical switches, the Home app (Apple HomeKit), and eventually through presence sensors or Bluetooth beacons. I’m also hoping to integrate this with my existing Home Assistant setup and visualize everything on Tileboard.
Here’s what I’m wondering:
- Are there other systems or manufacturers that can handle this setup without a neutral wire?
- Are there specific devices or configurations that would allow me to achieve this?
- What kind of gateway or additional hardware might I need, and would it be compatible with Homematic?
I’m really hoping to find a solution that’s cloud-independent, reliable, and durable, especially since I’m dealing with LED lights. I’d also love to avoid adding too much clutter to my WLAN with multiple devices on different frequencies.
If anyone has experience with similar setups or can point me in the right direction, I’d be incredibly grateful! Thanks in advance for your insights and help!
