Hey everyone, I’ve been diving into integrating my smart lock and motion sensors lately, and I wanted to share some of my experiences and tips! ![]()
First off, I’ve been using the Keymatic smart lock and a set of motion sensors around my home. The idea was to create a seamless security system where the lock automatically engages when the doors are closed and disengages when motion is detected. It sounds simple, but there were a few hiccups along the way.
One thing I noticed is that the Keymatic doesn’t always recognize its lock status correctly when the door is opened from the outside. To work around this, I set up a secondary automation that disengages the lock when the door contact sensor is triggered. However, this causes the lock to fully extend every time, which I’m a bit concerned about for long-term wear. Does anyone have a smoother solution for this?
On the motion sensor front, I’ve been using them both indoors and outdoors. The indoor ones are fantastic for detecting movement in the living areas, but I found that the outdoor sensors need a bit more tweaking. I had to adjust the sensitivity settings to avoid false triggers from things like tree branches or passing cars. A tip here: placing them slightly higher and angling them away from common wind paths helped a lot!
Another thing I’ve been experimenting with is using motion sensors to control my lighting. I set up a scene where the lights dim when there’s no motion detected for 10 minutes, but they’re back to full brightness as soon as someone enters the room. It’s been a great energy saver without compromising comfort!
I’d love to hear how others have integrated their smart locks and motion sensors. Any clever automations or troubleshooting tips you’ve come across? Let’s share and learn together! ![]()
