I’m really excited about exploring the possibilities of lock automation with Hubitat! I’ve been using SmartThings for a while now, and one of the features I’ve come to rely on is the ability to automate my locks based on who’s entering my home. I’d love to replicate this functionality with Hubitat, but I’m not entirely sure how to go about it.
In my current setup, I have two doors—a vestibule and a main entrance—that are connected in a chain. Some family members need access to both doors, while others, like delivery people, only need access to the first door. With SmartThings, I used the Lock User Management SmartApp to assign users to specific locks and automate the second lock opening if a specific user opens the first one. It worked pretty well, but I’m curious to see if I can achieve the same level of customization with Hubitat.
Here are the two main questions I have:
- User Assignment: Can I assign users to individual locks or groups of locks? For example, can I set up a user profile for my family that grants access to both doors, while creating a separate profile for delivery services that only unlocks the first door?
- Automation Rules: Is it possible to automate the second lock opening if a specific user opens the first one? This would be super handy for when family members come in through the vestibule and need access to the main entrance without manually unlocking it.
I’d also love to hear if anyone has experience with similar setups or has any tips for getting started with lock automation in Hubitat. I’m really looking forward to diving into this and making my home even smarter! Thanks in advance for your insights! ![]()
