My Experience with the Aqara Smart Lock U200: A Disappointing glitch
I’ve been using the Aqara Smart Lock U200 on a European door since March, and I was initially thrilled with its features, especially the integration with HomeKit keys and Matter. One of the critical features for me was the retract latch button in the app, which allowed me to remotely open the door since there’s no external handles in European apartment doors.
However, the other day, I faced a major issue: the code generated by Homekit didn’t work, and the retract latch button suddenly disappeared from the app, and I couldn’t remotely open the door. This became a problem when my Airbnb guests arrived. They entered their code on the keypad, but the door wouldn’t unlock or open. I tried to open it remotely, but that feature was gone.I was only able to unlock the door from the aqara app Thankfully, I could still unlock and open it through HomeKit somehow, but it left me with a lot of questions. Why did the code stop working? Why did the feature hold to open/retract latch vanish? Was it a firmware update?
This has now happened twice, and it’s really concerning because I need to trust that the lock will work perfectly for my guests. Hopefully, Aqara can address these issues soon otherwise I will have to find an alternative - and this is really something I would like to avoid as I built my smart home primarily with aqara devices (hubs, sensors, video doorbell, cameras) and I was happy to be able to rely on aqara!
@alexsemeloglou Thank you for sharing your experience with the Aqara Smart Lock U200. I can understand how frustrating it must be to lose such a key feature, especially when you rely on the retract latch function for guest access in a European apartment setup.
Based on the information available, issues with the retract latch or “Pull Spring Feature” can sometimes occur after a firmware update. It’s recommended to check whether the Pull Spring Feature is still enabled in your Aqara Home app. Sometimes, after an update, this function may be disabled or require reactivation. Here’s what you can do:
- Open the Aqara Home app.
- Navigate to your U200 lock’s configuration settings.
- Look for the “Pull Spring Feature” and ensure it’s enabled. If it is already enabled, try disabling and re-enabling it to see if that restores the retract latch button.
Additionally, for users who have updated to specific firmware versions (such as v80), certain issues with Home Key or remote features have been reported. In such cases, it’s advisable to restart the Pull Spring function after updating, and sometimes a manual reset or rejoining the Matter ecosystem is needed. If your Home Key card disappeared or certain features went missing, updating your Apple devices to the latest iOS/tvOS and using the “Restore Home Key Access” feature in the Home app can also help.
If you’ve tried these steps and the issue persists, or if the code generated by HomeKit continues not to work, there may be a deeper compatibility or account linkage issue at play. @alexsemeloglou I’m sorry to hear about the frustrating experience with your U200 lock—reliability is key, especially when it comes to guests, so I totally get why this is concerning. Let’s break down some potential fixes based on common scenarios:
For the retract latch button disappearing and remote control issues: The pull spring function in the Aqara Home app is often linked to latch behavior. Try checking if it’s enabled (go to lock configuration > Pull Spring Feature) and toggle it off/on to refresh—this can sometimes resolve glitches after updates . Also, ensure both the app and lock firmware are up to date, as updates can occasionally reset settings .
For the HomeKit code and unlock issues: If you recently updated the lock firmware (especially to v80), Home Key or code functionality might be affected. If you previously enabled the pull spring function, restarting it could help . For persistent HomeKit problems, try resetting Matter (long press the “√” button, enter admin password, press 4 to reset Matter) and rejoin the ecosystem—this often resolves pairing or functionality gaps after updates . Also, ensure your iPhone, HomePod, and Home app are on the latest software (iOS/tvOS 18.4.1 or later for missing Home Key) .
If these steps don’t work, reaching out to customer service would be the next best move—they can dive deeper into your specific setup.
Hope this helps get things back on track! It’s great you’ve built a full Aqara ecosystem, and I’d love to hear if these tips resolve the issues—feel free to share an update.

@alexsemeloglou I’m sorry to hear about the frustrating experience with your U200—reliability is key, especially for guests, so I totally get why this is concerning. Let’s break down potential fixes based on common scenarios:
For the “retract latch” button disappearing:
If this happened after a firmware update, it might relate to the pull spring function. Check if the pull spring feature is enabled in the Aqara Home app (go to lock configuration > Pull Spring Feature). Try disabling it, then re-enabling it to refresh the setting—this has helped resolve similar latch control issues before.
For HomeKit code not working:
If the issue started after a firmware update, it could be related to Matter integration. If you upgraded from firmware v78 to v80, you may need to reset Matter manually: long-press the “√” button on the keypad, enter the admin password, then press “4” to reset Matter, and rejoin the Matter ecosystem. If Home Key (or code) is missing, ensure your iPhone and Apple Hub (HomePod/Apple TV) are updated to iOS/tvOS 18.4.1 or later, then use “Restore Home Key Access” in the Home app (U200 settings > Manage Access).
If these steps don’t resolve it, or if the issue recurs, reaching out to customer service would be the best next step—they can dig into specific logs. Since you’ve built a full Aqara setup, I hope this gets sorted quickly so you can get back to trusting the lock. Let us know if the fixes work—your experience could help other European users too!

@alexsemeloglou I’m sorry to hear about the frustrating experience with your U200 lock—reliability is key, especially when it comes to guest access, so I totally get why this is concerning. Let’s break down potential angles based on what we know:
For the retract latch button disappearing and remote control issues, a common factor could be the “Pull Spring Feature” in the Aqara Home app. If this function was affected (maybe by a firmware update), try checking its status: go to the app > lock configuration > Pull Spring Feature. Disabling and re-enabling it might help restore the feature .
Regarding the HomeKit code not working, if you recently updated the lock’s firmware (like to v80), this could be related. For example, upgrading from v78 to v80 sometimes requires resetting Matter and rejoining the ecosystem manually (long press the “√” button, enter admin password, press 4 to reset Matter) . If the Home Key card disappeared, ensure your iPhone/HomePod is updated to iOS/tvOS 18.4.1 or later, then use “Restore Home Key Access” in the Home app .
Since this has happened twice, it’s worth verifying if the lock’s firmware and app are fully up to date, as outdated versions can cause inconsistent behavior. If these steps don’t resolve it, reaching out to customer service for further troubleshooting would be a good next step.
Thanks for sharing your experience—it’s helpful for the community to know about these edge cases. Have you noticed if the issues coincide with specific app or firmware updates? That might help others troubleshoot too!
