Smart Motion Sensor Automation: My Experience and Tips

Hey everyone, I wanted to share my experience with setting up a smart motion sensor automation in my garden. It’s been quite a journey, but I’ve learned a lot along the way! :star2:

The Problem:
I installed an Aquara motion sensor outside my house to detect movement in the garden. However, it started giving false alarms due to a spider web covering the sensor. Every little breeze would trigger it, which was super annoying!

My Solution:
I decided to create an automation that would deactivate the sensor temporarily after a certain number of false triggers. Here’s what I did:

  1. Trigger Setup: I set the sensor to count every false trigger.
  2. Automation Logic: After 3 consecutive false triggers within 5 minutes, the sensor disables itself for 15 minutes.
  3. Notification: I added a notification to alert me when the sensor is deactivated so I know to check it.

Challenges:
At first, I struggled with setting up the counter correctly. The calculation card wasn’t working as I expected, so I had to tweak the logic a few times. But after some research and trial and error, it finally worked! :tada:

Tips for Others:

  • Test Thoroughly: Always test your automation with different scenarios to ensure it works as intended.
  • Use Notifications: They’re super helpful for debugging and keeping track of your system’s status.
  • Keep It Simple: Start with a basic setup and gradually add complexity as you get more comfortable.

I’d love to hear how others have tackled similar issues or if you have any tips to share! Let’s keep the conversation going!

Best regards,
Robert
